OUR COLLEGE NEEDS A PROVOST

Martha’s Care College of Science, the first College in Nigeria with a focus on caregiving, integrates a wide range of supportive and entrepreneurial components designed to produce graduates of global standards. Located in the serene town of Igbogene-Epie in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, the institution is set to commence academic activities on August 30, 2024.

Martha’s Care College of Science is a fully residential institution, providing all students with accommodation in a modern, well-equipped hostel.

The College is pleased to announce vacancy for the position of a Provost. Interested candidates must demonstrate intellectual excellence, integrity, and sound judgment. Additionally, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

The Provost

The Provost is the Chief Academic, Administrative, and Accounting Officer of the College, wielding authority over staff and students and responsible for maintaining discipline within the institution, under the general control of the Governing Council. As one of the Principal Officers, the successful candidate must exhibit strong management and leadership capabilities, a passion for academic endeavours, and credibility.

Academic Qualifications and Qualities

The ideal candidate for the position of Provost must possess the following:

  • Educational Background: A Doctorate (PhD) Degree from a recognized institution in a discipline relevant to the College sector or qualifications stipulated in the Schemes of Service for the appointment of a Chief Lecturer.
  • Experience: A minimum of ten (10) years of teaching experience in tertiary institutions, with at least five (5) years in a College or similar TVET institution.
  • Rank: Must be a Chief Lecturer with not less than five (5) years of experience in the rank.
  • Age: Not more than fifty-nine (59) years of age as of February 4, 2024.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated evidence of strong academic and administrative leadership, initiative, creativity in policy formulation, and good human relations.
  • Professional Membership: Membership in professional bodies recognized by the Federal Government.
  • Research and Publications: Scholarly publications in reputable journals and presentation of invited papers at educational conferences, seminars, and workshops.
  • Grants and Development: Ability to attract research grants and development facilities to the College.
  • Vision and Initiative: Capacity to sustain the College’s development even under financial and other constraints.
  • Integrity: Should not pursue racial, gender, political, religious, or other sectional interests. Must be morally sound with an impeccable character, proven integrity, and free from financial embarrassment.
  • Fitness: Physically and mentally fit, with evidence from a government hospital.
  • Technology: Proficient in Information & Communication Technology (ICT).

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

The appointment is for a single tenure of five (5) years in line with existing provisions.

METHOD OF APPLICATION

Interested and qualified candidates should submit ten (10) typed copies of their application letters, curriculum vitae, and photocopies of all relevant documents. Applications should include the following details in the specified order:

  1. Full Names (Surname first and underlined)
  2. Date and place of birth
  3. State of Origin and Local Government Area
  4. Nationality
  5. Marital status
  6. Membership of Professional Bodies/Associations
  7. Honors and Distinctions (if any)
  8. Current Postal Address, including telephone number and email address
  9. Educational Institutions attended with dates
  10. Academic and Professional qualifications obtained with dates
  11. Academic/Scholarly publications
  12. Conferences attended and papers presented with dates
  13. Previous Employer(s) and Post(s) held with dates
  14. Present Employment to include status, duties, and any other relevant experience
  15. Statement of own vision for the College (20 copies)
  16. Other activities outside current employment
  17. Names and addresses of three (3) Referees (Employer, Educational, and Personal) who are to forward Confidential Reports directly to the Chairman Advisory Board. These referees should be able to attest to the candidate’s claim to high academic and managerial capabilities, as well as the candidate’s notable uprightness.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Applicants will be required to produce originals of the certificates and other relevant credentials if invited for an interview. Photocopies will not be accepted.

SALARY

Salaries are attractive and are in line with those currently earned in reputable Colleges in Nigeria.
